"Cheers For Chubby"

Now Showing:"Cheers For Chubby"
A 50s Film About the Dangers of Being Overweight

Originally presented by The Metropolitan Life Insurance Company with the cooperation of the Public Health Service, Federal Security Agency and the American Medical Association in the early 1950s, “Cheers For Chubby” was shown in American movie theaters on a 16mm reel, then later adapted for TV. After years of searching I acquired a vintage copy on 16 mm and had it digitized. Presenting: "Cheers For Chubby!”

After you've watched the short film, think about how different the message is from today. Do you think this film is "fat shaming," or was it lighthearted and sensitive to the people it intended to reach? Do you think the solution is oversimplified or spot on and still relevant?
